As you’ve probably seen from my other posts, I think books are a great way to introduce different seasons and holidays to kids. I’ve been adding my daughters’ favorite stories to my website over the last year — and now it’s time to share some of their most treasured Easter books for kids.
While many of these Easter stories are geared toward younger kids, my tweens and teen still enjoy a lot of these stories! No matter how you celebrate the holiday, these books are both educational and fun to read.
Since spring and Easter are closely linked, I tried to keep the focus of these books specifically on Easter. So if you’re looking for stories that focus more on the season and less on the holiday, check out my spring book recommendations for kids.
Before we dive into the stories my kids love, let’s talk about why these books matter!
How Easter Books Can Help Kids
We already know that reading is beneficial — for all ages. But similar to other holiday stories, Easter books for kids can be especially impactful. Here are a few reasons to add some Easter stories to your at-home library.
-
Teach kids how to celebrate Easter. Books are an easy way to help kids learn about different Easter activities. Whether it’s dyeing eggs, opening Easter baskets, enjoying family get-togethers, or going to church, you can find books that explain what happens on Easter.
-
Give the holiday a deeper meaning. For my family, Easter is a time to celebrate family traditions as well as our faith. While we love to read books about bunnies, it’s equally important to me that we read children’s books about Jesus. Stories can also teach kids other complex themes surrounding Easter, like new beginnings, hope, and transformation.
-
Create lasting traditions. We have several Easter traditions that my daughters get excited about. Since we only read these books around Easter time and then put them away, this is another fun tradition that my kids look forward to and think fondly of.

My Favorite Easter Books for Kids
This book list is geared toward babies, toddlers, preschoolers, and young elementary kids. But don’t be surprised if your older kids love some of these stories, too!
Babies Love Easter: Introduce your little ones to Easter with this sweet board book. The simple sentences, bright illustrations, and big, sturdy flaps make it a perfect addition to your Easter books for toddlers and babies. Ages 0-2
You’re My Little Honey Bunny: Filled with cute rhymes and cut-outs, this board book introduces simple Easter concepts while showing your little one just how much they’re loved. Ages 0-2
Easter Nursery Rhymes: Babies and toddlers love books that make sound! This interactive book features songs, like “Old McDonald Had Some Chicks” and “If It’s Easter and You Know It.” Parents will love that the volume is adjustable — and you can charge the book instead of using batteries. Ages 0+
Easter Croc: Crocodile is grumpy! The Easter bunny has made her rounds, but he doesn’t have any eggs. This book is filled with funny pop-ups, and toddlers will love seeing what happens next as Croc searches for some Easter eggs of his own. Ages 1+
We're Going on an Egg Hunt: Based on the rhyme, “We’re Going On a Bear Hunt,” this lift-the-flap book is fun to read — or sing — to babies and toddlers (though preschoolers will love it, too!). Ages 1+
There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Chick: If you’re looking for funny Easter books for kids, you can’t go wrong with this series. The repetitive wording, rhyming, and silly illustrations make it a great story for toddlers and preschoolers. Ages 2+
The Jesus Storybook Bible: If faith is at the center of your Easter celebration and you’re looking for children’s books about Jesus, I highly recommend adding this title to your collection. Beautifully written and illustrated, this book does a great job of helping kids understand stories from the Bible. Ages 2+
The Great Eggscape: A fun twist on an Easter egg hunt — and it includes stickers! Shel is enjoying some peace and quiet while the rest of the eggs in the carton have escaped into the store for an adventure. Will he go out searching for them? And what exactly will he find? Ages 3+
Pete the Cat Big Easter Adventure: Pete is ready to check out his Easter basket, but all he sees is a note from the Easter bunny. This book is a cute way to teach kids about fun Easter traditions and the importance of helping others. It also includes a sticker sheet, poster, and Easter cards. Ages 3+
Marshmallow: Based on a true story, this heartwarming tale is about the unlikely friendship between a cat (Oliver) and a baby bunny (Marshmallow). This book subtly captures the essence of spring and how Easter is a time for change, hope, and second chances. Ages 3+
Q&A: Easter Books for Kids
How do you choose Easter books for kids?
Beyond looking at age recommendations and reviews, I always made sure the stories would be interesting to my daughters. I also wanted the books to reflect what we wanted to teach them about Easter. For example, we have a mix of books about Jesus, Easter activities, and springtime animals.
What are the best Easter books for toddlers?
My kids loved Easter Croc and Honey Bunny! For babies and toddlers, I would focus on board books with simple wording, rhymes, and bright illustrations. Books they can interact with, like touch & feel books or lift-the-flap books, are another great way to engage little ones in storytime.
What are the best Easter books for preschoolers?
My kids loved the Great Eggscape! This book is a good step up from board books since there’s more wording, but the story is still simple to follow. Vibrant illustrations still matter for preschoolers, but you can now focus on books that go a bit deeper into experiences and emotions.
Are there other children’s books about Jesus that are good for Easter?
Yes! If you’re looking for more faith-centered Easter books for kids, there are several wonderful options. God Gave Us Easter, The Story of Easter, and The Berenstain Bears and the Easter Story.

What are some non-religious stories for Easter?
With the exception of the storybook Bible, all of these books are about bunnies, eggs, and other Easter activities. You can also look for books that focus on larger themes of the season or holiday. For example, this time of year is all about hope, change, and a fresh start. Marshmallow is a great example of this!
Should Easter books include the religious story?
That depends on how your family celebrates Easter. Some families prefer books that focus on Easter traditions like egg hunts and baskets, while others want stories that explain the Christian meaning of Easter. We like to include both, as my daughters love hearing fun bunny stories alongside books about Jesus and the message of hope that Easter represents.
What age should kids start reading Easter books?
You can start introducing Easter books to kids when they are babies. Board books with simple words, rhymes, and colorful illustrations are perfect for babies and toddlers. As kids get older, you can add stories with longer plots, humor, and deeper themes about the meaning of Easter.
How do I make the stories more engaging for kids?
You can pair the books you read for Easter with Easter activities, such as coloring eggs, going on an Easter egg hunt, and baking Easter treats. If you have little kids and are reading these stories for the first time, you can also use the book to spark conversations about Easter.
