The Best Spring Books for Kids

The Best Spring Books for Kids

One of my favorite ways to teach kids about the seasons is through books. Last year, I shared some of the books my kids love to read for fall. And now that we’re nearing springtime, it’s the perfect time to bring out my favorite collection of spring books for kids.

Here in Texas it is usually in the low 60s during winter, but we do occasionally experience snow! And there is definitely still a shift in the weather once we get close to spring. Like most states, we get more daylight too.

Regardless of where you live, it’s still important for kids to learn and celebrate what makes each season unique. Plus these books can let you experience the seasons in a whole new way, which will encourage the natural curiosity that kids have about the world.

I personally love these spring books for kids because they introduce meaningful stories along with scientific concepts. For example, what may seem like a story about gardening is also a story about coming together as a community to create something that benefits everyone.

The Best Spring Books for Kids

I hope this list saves you time while searching for seasonal books for your little ones! From silly to sweet, to engaging and informative, I’ve included a diverse selection of spring books for kids that are fun for them (and you!) to read.

Why Spring Books Matter for Kids

I love using books to celebrate different seasons and support kids through transitions. Before I get into my family’s favorite stories, here are a few other ways you can use these books to help your own kids.

  • Connect kids to nature. Spring is a great time for kids to get outside and explore their surroundings. This could mean splashing in puddles, playing with mud, or growing a garden.

  • Inspire curiosity and observation. Spring is a time to notice the plants blooming around us, how the weather changes, and which animals are emerging from hibernation or returning from migration.

  • Encourage seasonal conversations. Whether you want to introduce basic spring concepts, like the lifecycle of a plant, or more complex topics, like fresh starts and personal growth, spring books for kids can help jumpstart these deeper discussions.

Q&A: Spring Books for Kids

How do you choose books about spring for kids?

I look for age-appropriate books that introduce spring topics and will be fun for my kids to read or talk about after. For example, you may want to choose a board book about baby animals for infants and toddlers. For preschoolers, it could be a book about how plants grow from seeds. And for older kids, you could choose a book that dives deeper into the natural cycle of life, like Charlotte’s Web

What are some common spring themes to look for in books?

You can look for books that talk about changes in the weather, baby animals, insects, life cycles, plant growth, and gardening. You can also use these books to discuss how spring is a time for new beginnings.

Why are spring books for kids so important?

If winter is a time to hunker down and hibernate, then spring is a time to get outside and explore! These books can encourage kids to be more active and spend time in nature, which is a great mental boost. They can also inspire learning and curiosity by introducing kids to STEM concepts.

Spring Picture Books for Kids

Is it ok if my big kids still like to read books for little kids?

Of course! So many seasonal books are nostalgic, no matter how old you are. Reading your favorite books can feel comforting. Plus, kids love routine! Knowing what to expect in a book (or a show) can make you feel more safe and in control, while also reducing stress and boosting your mood.

How can I help my kids read more during spring?

Pairing spring stories with hands-on learning can help kids feel more excited about the books they’re reading. For example, you can find books that inspire kids to go on a nature walk, dissect flowers, plant their own garden, look for insects, or make a bird house.
